A MINI festival dedicated to the way people use words will be held at the Pound Arts Centre in Corsham.

The Weekend of Words will take place from Friday October 10 to Sunday October 12 and will celebrate the way people use words as inspiration and a springboard for other art forms.

The weekend will include talks, including a tale of Pickwick and its past, by Corsham Town Council chairman Allan Bosley, and an open stage performance of poetry, comedy and song.

There will also be a screening of the Oscar-winning film Iris, featuring Judi Dench and Kate Winslet, and an evening of poetry and music with the In-congruity Project.

There will be something for all the family too with events they can take part in, whether they fancy writing songs, learning more about poetry, reading plays or creating poems.

Up and coming writers will be put through their paces in a Dragon's Den style competition called The Writer's Den, where they will face a panel of judges on Sunday at 6pm.

Artistic director Nicholas Keyworth said: "We are looking forward to welcoming everyone to our first weekend mini festival with a focus on the written and spoken word.

"The weekend offers events, shows and activities for people and families of all ages celebrating the richness and diversity in the way we use words as an inspiration for our lives and as a springboard to other art forms."

Tickets can be bought online at www.poundarts.org.uk or by ringing The Pound box office on 01249 701628.
